Jumping The Broom
The MassEquality Education Fund and the National Black Justice Coalition proudly present Jumping the Broom: A Black Perspective On Same-Gender Marriage, The Massachusetts Edition.
Jumping the Broom directly addresses the very real concerns about marriage equality, civil rights, and religious faith that members of the black community often wrestle with when thinking about same-sex marriage.
This publication explains why marriage equality is consistent with the values that the black community holds dear - and how equal marriage rights fits into the larger struggle for equal rights for all human beings.
In particular, the book gives a voice to the many prominent local and national community leaders who support marriage equality, including Governor Deval Patrick, Congressman John Lewis, Senator Dianne Wilkerson, Representatives Byron Rushing and Marie St. Fleur, Julian Bond of the NAACP, and Coretta Scott King.
Please share Jumping the Broom with your loved ones and family, your minister and choir director, and people in your life whose support is needed to protect marriage equality in Massachusetts.
As Governor Deval Patrick has said so clearly, "I see time and energy devoted to debating whether to discriminate against gays who want to marry, while the pressing business of rebuilding our economy, building our public schools, and rebuilding our shattered public health system goes unattended."
